It’s not always the case that favourites

It’s not always the case that favourites
Come in when you expect them to.
In fact the opposite is often the outcome
No matter how much you pray or woo.

Do we really expect that the Devine
Will help us win a bet?
I’ll wager that Jesus didn’t frequent
A bookies, and he’ll not do it, yet

Punters offer up prayers for minor victories
hoping against hope for that elusive win
When they really should be begging
For forgiveness for sin
